Hyaluronic acid is one on the most powerful natural moisturizers. Modern cosmetology ranks hyaluronic acid as a popular trend of youth and beauty, and this attitude is reasonable. This substance has strong moisturizing effect, it makes skin young, elastic, and also fights aging changes and wrinkles development.
How does hyaluronic acid work
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance of human body, almost 50% of its molecules are contained in skin. The rest are kept in ligaments, cartilages, tendons, nerves and hair. Epidermis by its structure is like a water-spring bed, where collagen and elastin fibers are springs, and a filling agent between them are glycosaminoglycans, which lock in moisture. The main glycosaminoglycan is hyaluronic acid. Its molecules are like a net of cellules, which can bind a large amount of water and lock it inside. Besides that, this substance in the skin structure not only locks in moisture, but also regulates its level depending on climate and season, thus, maintaining collagen synthesis.
Under condition of normal metabolism, daily there is being broken up and again synthesized about 1/3 of all amount of hyaluronic acid. Right after the age of 30 these processes significantly slow down, and molecules break down prevails their renewal. As a result of it, skin loses moisture, becomes flappy, synthesis of collagen and elastin decreases, wrinkles start to appear. New cosmetic products and beauty procedures help to compensate the deficiency of this structural component and fight aging processes and epidermis failure.

What is a salt of hyaluronic acid
Being an ingredient of cosmetic products, hyaluronic acid can be represented in two forms: high-molecular and low-molecular. High-molecular hyaluronic acid is a normal-sized, fairly big molecule, which is able to bind large amount of water. But its size may cause some problems, because owing to it, the molecule of hyaluronic acid can’t penetrate the skin. Due to this fact, hyaluronic acid is of no use for the skin, but this is the case of external use. It would be much more effective to use high-molecular hyaluronic acid in the forms of fillers for injections to fill in wrinkles.
Low-molecular hyaluronic acid is developed in laboratory conditions by means of hydrolysis: a division of molecules in smaller parts. The most efficient derivative of hyaluronic acid is sodium hyaluronate. This is a salt of hyaluronic acid, which is developed by cleaning of its molecule from fats, proteins and some acids. Because of its small size, sodium hyaluronate molecule can penetrate even into the deepest layers of epidermis, having a prominent positive action.
What effect does a salt of hyaluronic acid have
- deep moisturizing;
- efficient regeneration of skin cover;
- total protection from negative external influence;
- filling in wrinkles, and as a result of it, their reduction and removal;
- transfer of nutrients and deep nutrition of all epidermis layers;
- collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production;
- provides sensitive skin with gentle care, reducing inflammation and contracting pores.
